Parents with H.E.A.R.T.S.

Monet

Monet joined the H.E.A.R.T.S. program at Hillside High School in September 2021. She graduated early with her high school diploma in January 2022 and immediately became a Participant Intern with H.E.A.R.T.S., transitioning to our Alumni Program. During her time with us, Monet gained valuable skills as an Administrative Assistant, networked with community partners, and oversaw HEARTS administrative duties.  Monet secured her first career opportunity as a Quality Control specialist with the North Carolina Asa Philip Randolph Institute (NCAPRI). She now leads HEARTS Participant Community Outreach Initiatives.  Monet has decided to follow in her father’s footsteps by joining the Army Reserve in January 2025.

I graduated from Holton Career and Resource Center in 2021. When I first joined H.E.A.R.T.S. back on March 15, 2024, I remember that day like yesterday. I was reaching out for resources.  I needed help badly being that I just had my 2nd child and I’m a single mom. I knew that this program would be the perfect fit for me. From my first 1:1 till now, I’ve come so far by reaching my goals and learning how to fend for myself as a young mom of two. H.E.A.R.T.S. has taught me to advocate for myself by calling different places and actually talking to people. They helped with baby items, personal hygiene, and household supplies at the LoveBug Children's Closet because I didn't know where I would get things that I needed for my children. H.E.A.R.T.S. has helped me and my children get out of the house more and experiencing new things by inviting me to community events. I now have an apartment with the help of Orange County. I graduated from the Hayti Reborn Justice Movement Program, learning Job skills in June. I plan on attending college in the fall to obtain my Veterinarian Tech license. The next goals I am working on is finding employment, getting transportation, and getting my kids in school but I know H.E.A.R.T.S. will be there to help me along the way.

Malaysia

Since being in H.E.A.R.T.S. my life has become so much better. I joined H.E.A.R.T.S. when I was pregnant and battling depression among other things. Coach Tashia and Ms. Tameka welcomed me with open arms, love, and support. H.E.A.R.T.S. partnered me with Made In Durham's BULLS Academy and I received a certificate in Biotechnology from Durham Tech. I am looking forward to my new job in the field making a livable wage for me and my daughter. Without the love and support of H.E.A.R.T.S. I honestly don’t know where I would be. Being a single mom is hard, but with H.E.A.R.T.S. being in my corner it’s a lot easier. I’m so proud to be a participant of H.E.A.R.T.S.!

Although I’ve only been with H.E.A.R.T.S for a short time, I’ve already experienced so much support and care. During a difficult period in my life, H.E.A.R.T.S has truly helped me regain my strength. Mrs. Latoya has been an incredible source of help, and I’m beyond grateful. I’m excited to continue receiving the love and encouragement from everyone here, knowing that I’m valued and surrounded by people who truly understand my journey.
