Community Advisory Council (CAC)
The CAC is a group of trusted community partners who advise and support the H.E.A.R.T.S. – AP2 program team. Their insights and resources help us deliver high-quality services and strengthen our impact.
Partners are selected based on participant needs, organizational goals, grant requirements, and alignment with our mission.

Mobilizing African American Mothers through Empowerment (MAAME, Inc.) empowers Black, Indigenous, and other Birthing People of color to navigate systems and mobilize to offer resources, services, and support for holistic maternal health and economic advancement.
Families & Communities Rising, Inc. dba Durham Head Start /Early Head Start provides an array of child and family development services to families in Durham and Orange Counties with children, age range from birth to kindergarten, to increase access to coordinated comprehensive services for low-income children and families in childcare, promote school readiness of children birth to age five by enhancing cognitive, social-emotional, psychological, and nutritional health, and to establish and foster an effective partnership with the stakeholder whose mission is to serve a similar targeted population.
Since 2015, our partnership with North Carolina Central University has given H.E.A.R.T.S. Social Work interns. These young minds provide a fresh perspective, enhances our social strategies, and an extra set of hands to accomplish our programming goals. They connect Big Sister Mentors to our participants and connect them with community resources and service.
Western Carolina University provides students majoring in professional writing, which requires that the interns focus most of their internship on writing and marketing writing which includes but not limited to social media writing, blog writing, newsletter writing, writing brochures, etc.
Equity Before Birth Save the lives of Black birthing people and their infants and improve health outcomes by increasing access to critical services and support. We envision a world where all people have the same chance for a healthy and happy transition to parenthood, while all babies have the opportunity to thrive.
