Where Are They Now?

H.E.A.R.T.S Current Chapter

Hillside High School (Junior)

Thanks to  H.E.A.R.T.S my daughter and I are able to live a fabulous life. I have grown as a young lady and as a mother. I joined H.E.A.R.T.S during my freshman year of high school. I am currently a junior in high school. H.E.A.R.T.S is amazing the organization and has been a blessing to my family. Because of all the love, support and encouragement I have received from H.E.A.R.T.S,  I am now on the A and B honor roll and have a stronger hold and understanding of how to handle my life and schooling. I greatly appreciate your organization from the bottom of my heart. I don't know where I would be without H.E.A.R.T.S.

Southern High School (Graduate)

Because of your kind consideration, my daughter and I can have a good life. I was able to graduate early from high school with the help of the H.E.A.R.T.S program and those who support them in the community. the H.E.A.R.T.S program came into our schools and provided us with support and helped unite all the moms in the program to show us that we are not alone and that we all can draw support from one another and do not have to go through our struggles alone.

Hillside High School (Graduate)

Thanks to H.E.A.R.T.S, my son and I were able to get affordable housing and daycare. I am a recent Class of 2018 graduate, who plans to attend North Carolina Central University (NCCU) to receive a degree in nursing and eventually obtain certification to become a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN).  H.E.A.R.T.S has showed me a lot of support, and I know that H.E.A.R.T.S is always here to help me when I am in need. I have gained a whole new family with the H.E.A.R.T.S program!

Southern High School (Graduate)

The H.E.A.R.T.S program has allowed my child and I be able to live a very productive and success life. I have just recently completed my high school education and I could not have done that without the help from the H.E.A.R.T.S program. Since being a member of the H.E.A.R.T.S program I have found the motivation to continue on my educational pursuits at a four-year university to obtain a degree in Criminal Justice. I cannot express how much gratitude I have towards the H.E.A.R.TS program and the community partners that pour back into the H.E.A.R.T.S program, so that they can be there for us.

Durham Tech Gateway to College Program

I just recently moved to Durham about 4 months ago. I am a teenage mom and live on my own with my child and his father. It is a new beginning for us because this is our first place together and alone. We both work and I go to school so I really needed a daycare because I wasn’t always able to take my child with me to work. I still drove to Sanford to drop off my child with his aunt or his grandparents (Sanford is where I used to live) it was too much for me because I wouldn’t see my child for a week and only see him on weekends because of school and work. I then was referred to H.E.A.R.T.S. when I have mentioned to my sister that I needed a daycare. I really liked that they have all of these different kind of tasks that they can help you with like preparing to apply for Food Benefits, how to find resources in the community, and helping to apply for day care. I really liked that they would contact me through person and through phone call rather than always through email or texting because it makes it feel more real when you can hear the other person. They helped me do all of the paper work and helped me understand what I was signing and what some of the descriptions meant. They prepared me for what the process would look like. I really liked that about H.E.A.R.T.S. and Ms. Brown is the sweetest person ever. She is very out going from my point of view.

Southern High School (Graduate)

Because of the H.E.A.R.T.S program, my son and I are able to live a great life and plan for our future. As a recent high school graduate, I feel equipped with the knowledge necessary to step into life. With the help of the H.E.A.R.T.S program I would not have been able to do what I needed to take care of myself and my son. I have been able to work and obtain a well paying steady job, pay for affordable child care and I am now working on securing independent housing for my son and I. In the midst of accomplishing this goal, I plan to take a month this summer and travel with my son for us to celebrate the biggest accomplishment of my life!
