LATONYA CARTER,

BOARD CHAIR

Carter is the Board Chair for the H.E.A.R.T.S. program and an adviser of "Our House" Resource Center, LLC. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Management from DeVry University and holds a Professional in Human Resources Certification. Carter is a human resources professional with over 12 years of experience. She has severed as a dedicated board member since 2013 and has worked with several non-profit organizations. 

TAMEKA BROWN,

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Brown is the Founder of H.E.A.R.T.S. and "Our House" Resource Center, LLC. She is the Executive Director of the H.E.A.R.T.S Programand Chief Executive Officers of "Our House". Ms. Meka has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Child Development and Family Studies, a North Carolina Teachers License, and is CPR Certified. Currently, Brown is servicing young mothers & fathers in Durham County.Increasing the graduation rate amongst young parents and decreasing the dropout rate for Durham Public School System.  For background information, see "How It All Started" Tab.

KATHY CHAPMAN,

SECRETARY

As a seasoned educator and administrator with over 30 years of experience, Kathy Chapman serves as a dedicated board member since 2013 with a MA in administration and a ME.D in Special Education.  Chapman is committed to providing a positive environment for young mothers and pregnant teens as they move toward graduating from high school.

SHERROD L. LAWS,

M. ED, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL & BILINGUAL

​Sherrod Laws was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina. He is a product of Durham Public Schools and has taught Spanish in the school system as well as the Charter School and Private School Sectors. He has traveled to Mexico, Honduras, Puerto Rico, and The Dominican Republic. Sherrod is bilingual in Spanish and hopes to help with Spanish Speaking youth. He is currently in school obtaining his Masters in School Administration with aspirations to be a Principal and a college professor.

Xaviette Pointer-Kiney has over ten years of experience supporting small business development.  As a current doctoral student, she desires to support start-up business owners & entrepreneurs in a consultant/coaching capacity.

Born from a teenager mother in Durham, NC she is determined to use her voice to impact the world. Overcame by the word of her testimony from domestic violence, depression, even 

homelessness she wants to let everyone know, "It's Not Where You Start, It's Where You Finish!"

Antiona Williams was born in Brooklyn, New York and loves helping people. In 2014,  Antiona graduated from Hillside High School with her High School Diploma. She is currently pursuing her career as a Police Officer. She became a young mother at the age of sixteen and serves as a young mom representative on the Board.

Ms. Cynthia Bernard moved durham, NC from long Island she studied NY studied business administration at North Carolina Central University and proceeded to work in several cororations in the research triangle area before starting a career as an event planner and co founder of  B&B Style Event based in Durham, NC it is truly my greatest heart desire assisting a client with seeing their dream event come to life. She passionate about studying and sharing the word of God. 

Owner of Full Street Wings Cafe. Mrs. Settles received her Bachelors degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing from North Carolina Central University. She has several years experience in Marketing and special events as the Volunteer and Project Coordinator. Mrs. Settles has worked on the special events calendar for Duke University as well as a Student Account Analyst. After years of working she decided to start her on catering business and now operates a food truck that serves Durham Orange and Wake counties. She now serves on the board, and is the exclusive caterer for the H.E.A.R.T.S Program. So far this year Mrs. Settles has provided nutritious meals for the girls in the program to make sure they have a balanced meal throughout the day when they meet each week. Along with providing a meal she has also participated as the caterer for the fall fundraiser and will continue to participate in helping the H.E.A.R.T.S Program one plate at a time.
