She Believed She Could, So She IS...
Only 38 percent of teen girls who have a child before age 18 get their high school diploma by age 22, according to the National Campaign To Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.
Along with 3 other participants, Angel will be in the 38% that receive their high School diploma. She is graduating with a 3.2 GPA and will be attending North Carolina Central University, majoring is Nursing, minor in Social Work.
As a dedicated student and loving mother, Angel came to H.E.A.R.T.S excelling in high school with big dreams and aspiration. She had high tenancy, endurance, and resilience to beat the odds, stomp on statistics to reach her spark. We've watch her self-efficacy cultivate after having her daughter at the age of 15. Angel changed her perspective on life and has a deep understanding of why it is important to set goals for yourself.
H.E.A.R.T.S. has been there the past 3 years to help Angel achieve those goals through:
80+ weekly group sessions
teaching her parenting, family development, healthy relationship, independent living skills, financial awareness and many more
monitoring and mentoring for academic success
advocating for college courses on the career pathway for her success
connecting her with our community partner, Hope Her Way, who will work with her, post high school, to ensure college success...together, we helped her apply for complete her apply for and complete applications for colleges and scholarships
